Departures-
After 1 year working abroad, my time here in Sydney is up. With no immediate projects for me to return to back home I will finally be living the dream I’ve been putting off for so long; To travel and see the world full time. To answer some of the most common questions these are some of my immediate plans- I’m leaving Sydney on Monday and headed to Byron Bay (arguably one of the best places in the world to start a backpacking trip). After Byron I plan on hitting Adelaide and Melbourne, with my final stop in Australia being Tasmania for the 6 day Overland Track hike. When I leave Oz I’m booking a one way ticket to New Zealand where I plan on spending 6-8 weeks with tent and sleeping bag in tow. From there I have a few spots at the top of my hit list, but I’m trying to take it 1 step at a time. I want to stay nimble and ready to allow for inspiration to take me some places. My #1 plan is to not make too many plans.
Today I just got back from Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Northern Territory Outback. It was sort of me testing the waters before my open water swim. It was my first time staying in a hostel, bunking with 3 other strangers, using a shared bathroom and showers etc. It was a perfect pre trip trip and as expected traveling alone allowed me to meet some great people, including my Korean bunkmate who wouldn’t stop calling me Barb. I’m confident going it alone is the only way I’m going to be able to let down my guard enough to meet new people and make new friends. There’s now a girl from Osaka and another from Paris that I’ll always keep in contact with if that is any indication of whats to come.
Thank you for all the emails letting me know what your individual upcoming travel plans are. Please keep those coming and I hope to meet up with some of you along the way!
I’m looking forward to be an incredible time on the road!
