The Yankee hat-
As I’m winding down there is 1 regret I have worth mentioning. There are a few standard picture poses I do; The arms overhead in a V in front of noteworthy landmarks thing and the shot of my feet in the foreground whenever I sit down to look out at the landscape during a hike. I’ve been getting this one wrong the whole time. The photo collection I should have focused on these past few years is the vast array of different people around the world wearing Yankee hats. I made the mistake early on of assuming someone wearing a Yankee hat was from New York. On a hiking trail in New Zealand I cheerfully ask the lad “Hey you from the US”?… “No, Germany”… “Oh… Pointing to his head, “well you’re a Yankees fan?”… “Um, no, I just like the hat”. That was the last time I assumed anything. Since that time you wouldn’t believe the different mix of people, I mean seriously the Yankee hat is EVERYWHERE; little kids in Nepal, old men in Vietnam, tribesmen in Botswana, farmers in Bolivia. My personal favorite was an elderly female monk in northern India. She was decked out in the traditional orange robe, bent halfway over from spinal stenosis, with a Buddhist rosary in her hand and a navy blue Yankees hat on her head. I’m not sure if the credit goes to Jay Z or not, but maybe he really did make the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee could.
